FAUS AND YAMAN WIN GOLD

FAUS AND YAMAN WIN GOLD
04/11/2023

Two more competitions ended today at the European Billiards Championships in Antalya/Turkey. In Balkline 47/2 and Artistic, Marek Faus from the Czech Republic and Haci Arap Yaman from Turkey stood at the top of the podium.

Balkline 47/2:
The day started with a surprise as Marek Faus defeated the defending champion Raymund Swertz from the Netherlands 275:257 after extra innings. Sven Daske from Germany also achieved a brilliant performance as he turned a 14:212 deficit into a victory against Patrick Niessen (Belgium).

In the end, these two also faced each other in the final, with Marek Faus setting a sign right at the beginning with a run of 157 points. Daske did not have the strength to counter after a long day in the tournament and had to congratulate his opponent after nine innings to the European title.

Meanwhile, Willy Gerimont (France) and Michel van Silfhout (Netherlands) won bronze. In Gerimont’s semi-final even a run of 208 was not enough for him to win against Faus after two innings. In parallel Michel van Silfhout had nothing to counter the run of 237 by Daske.

Artistic:
Haci Arap Yaman from Turkey deservedly won the title in the Artistic event. In the final against Marvin Heinrich, the German was a step ahead until the break, but then he missed some important balls. First, Heinrich missed a 7-point ball at 109:122 and also a 5-point score at 140:158.

The decision was then in Yaman's favour at 172:147 when he failed to score a maximum difficulty of ten points, but Marvin Heinrich also failed to do so. Thus, Yaman could not be caught up with the remaining figures and thus secured the European title.

Sergio Sanchez (Spain) and Thomas Ahrens from Germany had previously failed in the semi-finals. While the Spaniard was on the losing side against Yaman, Ahrens had to admit defeat in the German duel against Marvin Heinrich only in the final phase of the match.

Women's 3-Cushion:
Qualified for tomorrow's semi-finals are top favourite Therese Klompenhouwer (Netherlands), Danielle Le Bruijn, Jaimie Buelens (both Belgium) and Charlotte Sörensen from Denmark. While Klompenhouwer played a very strong match in the quarterfinals against Guzin Mujde Karakasli (Turkey) with a 30:14 after 16 innings, Jaimie Buelens and the German Steffi Träm had a duel on equal terms. In the end, the Belgian had the happier end with 30:28 points after 59 innings.

5-Pins National Teams:
In this competition, the participants of the quarter-finals have now been determined. Denmark 1 so far impressively underlined its position as the first challenger of the Italians and finished the group phase as the best team. They will now meet their own second team. The other duels are France - Belgium, Germany - Switzerland and Italy - Austria. The final is then on the schedule on Wednesday evening.

3-Cushion Small Table:
In this discipline, the group phase is still running. Most of the athletes have to play one more match tomorrow before the quarter-finals start. Excitement is promised in many groups, as only the top of each group will definitely qualify for the final round. Particularly noteworthy is Group D, in which each athlete has one win and one loss before the last match day. So, it is already clear that everything will be decided by the general average.

The entire event can be followed in the paid livestream on tv.kozoom.com. Each of the 20 tables will be shown.
