JASPERS IS THE WINNER IN ANKARA WORLD CUP

Dick Jaspers is the winner in the first World Cup of 2022, Quyet Chien Tran is the runner up, third place for Marco Zanetti and Tayfun Tasdemir.

The Dutchman crowned himself with gold in Ankara after not an easy road to victory.

In the final match Jaspers dominated the Vietnamese Quyet Chien Tran for 50-23 in 20 innings. Before the final he was twice on the edge of leaving the tournament but finally won by one single point. In quarter finals Haeng Jik Kim was leading 32-19 at the break; Jaspers closed the gap to 48-49, the Korean missed his match ball and Jaspers made 2 to win in 28 innings. In the semifinals Marco Zanetti slightly led the game until 48-40 then he missed 3 match balls, one of them by a hair, and Jaspers ran 2-7-1 to win in 37 innings.

In the second semifinal Tasdemir started with a run of 10 but Tran soon neutralized the advantage taking the lead at the break for 28-19 in 10 innings, The Vietnamese kept the lead until the end for 50-42 in 26.

5th to 8th place: Haeng Jik Kim, Martin Horn, Nikos Polychronopoulos, Michael Nilsson.

9th to 16th place: Jose Juan Garcia, Daniel Sanchez, Roland Forthomme, Peter Ceulemans, Eddy Merckx, Heo Jung Han, Sameh Sidhom, Torbjorn Blomdahl.

Eddy Merckx was the best overall average (2,223) and the best run (21)

Next stop of the World Cup circuit will be in Las Vegas from March 27th to April 2nd.
