CAROM BILLIARDS EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP HAS BEGUN

The CEB All-in-one started today in Antalya, Turkiye. Until March 15, around 400 athletes from a total of nineteen nations – Italy withdrew its participation at short notice – will compete for medals in thirteen different carom billiards events.
As scheduled, the competitions began today, Saturday, at 09:00 local time, and the special atmosphere of the event could be felt immediately. CEB as well as the Turkish Billiards Federation had prepared everything perfectly to provide the athletes with the best possible conditions. Since the arrival day yesterday, Antalya has been full of happy players, referees, and officials looking forward to a billiards festival of the highest level.

The first competitions are now taking place on a total of 24 tables, and over the nine tournament days all facets of carom billiards will be showcased. From 3-Cushion to 5-Pins, and from classic disciplines such as cadre to the spectacular artistic billiards.

Of course, there is also a livestream available for fans covering all 24 tables. A paid service is available at www.tv.kozoom.com. The entire European Championship and all the tables can be watched for €18.99, while an annual pass for Kozoom costs €89.00.

1-Cushion
In this discipline, sixteen players started today in four groups of four, playing in a round-robin format. The top two players from each group advance to the quarterfinals, before the final takes place on Sunday at 18:30 local time.
In Group A, Austria’s Arnim Kahofer made an excellent start to the tournament. With three clear victories, he confidently secured his place in the last eight. In Group B, France’s Xavier Le Roy matched that performance with three wins as well. The Dutch player Raymund Swertz also appears to be a strong medal contender, having dominated his group in the same fashion. The winner of Group D was experienced French player Willy Gerimont.

1-Cushion quarters final:
Willy Gerimont – Nikolaos Gerassimopoulos
Raymond Swertz – Brian Zola Hansen
Xavier Le Roy – Esteve Mata
Arnim Kahofer – Xavier Gretillat

5-Pins
In the individual 5-pins event, a total of 48 players started the competition at 09:00. As mentioned, the Italian top players are unfortunately absent in Antalya. Nevertheless, the level of competition has not suffered, as fans on site and watching the livestream still saw many high-quality matches. The group stage concluded in the evening, and the tournament will really pick up pace on Sunday with the round of the last 32.

3-Cushion U25
Meanwhile, a total of 24 young talents are competing for the European crown in the U25 3-cushion category. The top two players from each of the eight groups qualify for the round of 16. Among those advancing are Dimitrios Seleventas (Greece), Lukas Mortensen (Denmark), and local favorite Seymen Ozbas (Turkiye).
Germany’s Amir Ibraimov had some difficulties. Just a week ago he finished second at the Team World Championship together with Martin Horn. In the end, however, he also managed to make the cut for the round of 16. Defending champion Marcos Morales from Spain is no longer in the competition after losing both of his matches in Group A. Turkey’s Denizcan Akkoca has also been eliminated.

Mortensen and Seleventas scored the best overall averages so far: 1,463. The best match is also by Mortensen: 2,000. The best run of 11 was achieved by the Spanish Sergio Martinez.
