GOLD FOR THE NETHERLANDS AND FRANCE CONCLUDES THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

With gold medals for the 3-Cushion National Teams for France and Ladies National Teams for the Netherlands, the CEB All-in-One Carom European Championships in Antalya, Türkiye, came to an end today.

3-Cushion Ladies National Teams
With an outstanding performance, Therese Klompenhouwer and Karina Jetten secured the gold medal. The two Dutch players faced the Türkiye-team in the final. Exciting matches had been expected, but that was not the case. Neither Guzin Mujde Karakasli nor Gülsen Degener could mount a decisive challenge against their opponents and both lost clearly. Earlier in the semifinals, the Dutch team had defeated the Danish pair Charlotte Sørensen and Nanna Petersen, while the Türkiye-team also clearly prevailed against Belgium  with Jaimie Buelens and Marie Rose Rouffa.

The highest run of the day was achieved by Guzin Mujde Karakasli with nine points. Therese Klompenhouwer, meanwhile, recorded the best individual average with 1.250. Team Netherlands posted an average of 1.111 in the final and 0.920 across the entire tournament.

3-Cushion National Teams
The new European champions in the 3-Cushion National Teams event are the French duo Jeremy Bury and Mikaël Devogelaere, who secured the title by winning the decisive scotch double match against Belgium by 15–9. However, Frédéric Caudron first opened the final with a clear victory for Belgium in the opening single match against Jeremy Bury. After a score of 19–17, he scored twelve consecutive points, creating the necessary distance between himself and his opponent. The second single match saw Mikaël Devogelaere deliver a very strong finish for the French team. Individual European champion Peter Ceulemans had the equalizing inning at 30–40, but managed to score only three points.

This led to the decisive scotch double extension, in which Belgium initially took a six-point lead. Bury and Devogelaere responded immediately with a run of eight points and gradually extended their advantage in the following innings. In the end, it was Jeremy Bury who converted the second match point, crowning Team France as European champions.

The two bronze medals went to the teams from the Netherlands and Sweden. Glenn Hofman and Jean van Erp lost 1–3 to Belgium, while the match between Sweden and France went to the extension. The eventual gold medalists decided it with a run of eleven points, winning 15–1 after six innings. Torbjörn Blomdahl and David Pennör therefore finished in third place.

Earlier, the quarterfinal between Belgium 2 and Sweden had been particularly dramatic. Eddy Merckx and Roland Forthomme led 14–3 in the decisive scotch double after two innings, before the Swedish team snatched the medal away with a run of twelve points.

The highest run of the day was played by Peter Ceulemans with 13 points, although this was surpassed in the doubles by Eddy Merckx and Roland Forthomme, who achieved a run of 14. The highest individual average was recorded by Frédéric Caudron, who shone with 3.363 in the final. Best team game average was also produced by Team Belgium (2,500) while team Belgium 2 with Merckx and Forthomme produced the highest overall team average with 1,897.
