Viersen. After four straight years, Belgium was World Champion in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, was the gold in 2016, for the Netherlands. In the final won the Netherlands, with the players Dick Jaspers and Jean van Erp, against Turkey. Turkey with the players Semih Sayginer and Lutfi Cenet, had won the semi final in a fantastic match against Belgium. The national tandem, Eddy Merckx and Frédéric Caudron had dominated this event for four years. This time, the Turkisch players with the return of Semih Sayginer - who had been missing from this world championship for ten years, played a brilliant match with top averages.
Austria was the surprise of this event. Arnim Kahofer and Andreas Efler, thrown out Spain and Germany B in the qualifications and Greece in the quarter final. In the half final, was the Netherlands to strong for them.
After her great performance in the match against Belgium, the arena in Viersen, expected a great final, with maybe a Scotch double. But Jean van Erp, the Dutch Champion of 2015, beats Cenet in a fantastic reach with 40-12 in 16 innings. The climax was the table between Jaspers and Sayginer. After a good start ( 21-9 in 10 innings ) the machine stopped a little. Sayginer came back to 32-25. Then Jaspers rolled slowly to his 40 points and won. The last point of Dick Jaspers sent an explosion in the arena and a lot of Dutch and German fans.
