BC ANDERNOS TAKES HOME THE COUPE D'EUROPE 2025-2026
Today the spectators in the sport pavilion of Leça da Palmeira could witness two exciting semifinals with breath-taking finish.
Both matches ended with the same score (5-3) meaning that the last match which ended in a draw decided the fate of a team.
In the first semifinal the Danes of Varde took the advantage over Mostoles with victories of Nelin and Schroder over Fernandez and Alfonso Legazpi while Ruben Legazpi beat Merckx. On a 4-2 score in favor of Varde the remaining match became the decider: De Bruijn and Ferreira fought points after point until a draw finally let the Danes advance to the final.
The second semifinal showed a similar scenario between Andernos and FC Porto. At first Zanetti beat Jaspers and Forthomme won Blomdahl, then Soares succeded in a great comeback and took the victory from the hand of Barbeillon. Again on a 4-2 score for the French team the last match proved to be the decider and it ended again with a draw between Costa and Marechal that allowed Andernos in the final game.
The final with Varde and Andernos was somehow less tense: Forthomme, Marechal and Barbeillon took the lead in their respective matches towards 3 clear victories, at that point the result of the match between Zanetti and Merckx had no longer any impact on the final outcome and Andernos could finally cheer with its many supporters.

READY FOR THE SEMIFINALS IN MATOSINHOS
The final groups were concluded today at the end of a long and exciting day.
Group A was the first to determine two semifinalists. In the first round, both matches ended in a draw, making the final outcome unpredictable. In the second round, victories by Andernos (France) and Móstoles (Spain) clarified the situation, although there was still room for surprises. The final round saw the French win the group with a resounding 8-0 victory over Elversberg, Germany. The battle for second place was won by Móstoles, Spain, with a decisive 5-3 victory over Akdemir Bilardo, Turkiye.
In Group B, two draws also complicated the situation. Before the final match, Varde (Denmark) and S. Quentin (France) led the group with 3 match points and 10 individual points each. FC Porto, with two draws, had 2 match points, 8 individual points, and the highest overall average in the group. With zero points, Neusiedl had no chance. The final two matches decided the final standings: the Danes won 5-3 against S. Quentin, who had to settle for an honorable third place; home team Porto also beat Neusiedl 6-2 to secure a spot in the semifinals.
Italian Marco Zanetti's best game for Andernos's team was memorable and the best so far: 40 points in 10 innings.

LAST 8 TEAMS ARE DECIDED IN LEÇA DA PALMEIRA
Today, the seven teams advancing to the final stage of the Coupe d'Europe 3-Cushion were decided, in addition to FC Porto, which is already qualified as organizer.
Each round was decisive in determining the group winners, while the two best second-place teams, who also qualified, had to wait until the end of the day to know.
Group D played first: German team BC Elversberg, featuring Polychronopoulos, Frings, Bosel, and Marx, won their group thanks to a 6-2 victory over Cue & Darts, who finished third. Turkish team Longoni BSK finished second.
Next came Group E, where Austrian team BSC Neusiedl am See, featuring Hofman, Jimenez, Kostistansky, and Maurer, won 7-1 against Randers, who finished third; S. Quentin (Loncelle, Mas, Perrotin, Duriez) settled for an important second place, and Sokol Zizkov finished last.
In Group A, both Spain's Móstoles (Legazpi R., Ferreira, Fernandez, Legazpi A) and Denmark's Varde (Merckx, De Bruijn, Nelin, and Schroder) won against Leça (8-0) and Op de Meir (8-0), both finishing on five points, but Varde won the group with more individual points. Móstoles finished second, Op de Meir third, and Leça fourth.
In Group B, Andernos (Zanetti, Forthomme, Marechal, Barbeillon) won again convincingly 8-0 against Bousema to maintain first place. Bousema finished second, Castalla defeated Ostrava 6-2 to finish third, and Ostrava finished fourth.
Group C was the most unpredictable: Akdemir BSK from Antalya (Akti, Altuntalsar, Ozbas and Bas) won 6-2 against Pottendorfer, securing first place in the group and a place in the next round. Pottendorf had to settle for second place; Portuguese team CB Amadora finished third, and Italian team Nuova Accademia di Catania was fourth.
The two best runners-up based on match points, individual points, and overall average were CB Mostoles (Spain) and S. Quentin (France).
The two final groups are composed as follows:
Final Group A: Andernos, Akdemir Bilardo, BC Elversberg, and Mostoles
Final Group B: FC Porto, BSC Neusiedl am See, Varde, and S. Quentin
The top two in each group will advance to the semifinals.

COUPE D'EUROPE 3-CUSHION: DAY 2
At the end of the second day of competition, Andernos's French team, featuring Zanetti, Forthomme, Marechal, and Barbeillon, maintains a firm lead in the provisional standings and their group, being the only team to have never lost a single match (4 match points and 16 individual points); they also have the best overall average and the best match so far. Pottendorf and Neusiedl for Austria and Elversberg of Germany, also first in their respective groups, trail with 4 match points and 14 individual points. The Danes of Varde also lead their group, but with just 3 match points and 12 individual points.
Tomorrow's matches will be crucial, with many of the top two teams in each group battling it out for the group crown; tension is also high for the second-place finishers, as the two best runners-up will also be awarded a spot in the final groups. Among them were Bousema, Akdemir Bilardo, Mostoles, S. Quentin, Cue & Darts, Longoni BSK, Op de Meir, and Randers.
Noteworthy was Dion Nelin's performance, who, after yesterday's 18-point run, further improved with a 20-point run today.
The matches continue tomorrow with the third and last day of qualifications..

FIRST DAY IS OVER IN LEÇA DA PALMEIRA
The first day of competition has concluded in the Coupe d'Europe 3-Cushion at the Leça da Palmeira sports pavilion; the first fireworks have already been seen, and it's becoming clear who the main contenders for the next stage will be, although there are still many matches to go and anything can happen. Today al teams played their first match out of three.
BC Andernos (France) leads the provisional standings and Group B with a full score and a team average of 1.739, the best so far. Following them are the Turkish of Akdemir Bilardo, Cue & Darts (Netherlands), and Randers (Denmark), also leading their respective groups with 8-0 wins. Finally, Op de Meir (Belgium) leads Group A with a 6-2 victory.
Regarding individual performances, Dion Nelin's 40 in 11 innings, including an 18 points run, stands out for Varde.
The matches continue tomorrow with the second matchday.

THE COUPE D'EUROPE 3-CUSHION STARTS IN FEW DAYS IN PORTUGAL
The renowned three-cushion club competition is about to begin in Portugal at the Pavilhão Municipal de Leça da Palmeira (Porto/Matosinhos) from July 22nd to 26th. This year marks the 66th edition of this long-standing event, and it's the ninth time it's being held in Porto; the event is organized by FC Porto under the umbrella of the CEB and the Portuguese Billiards Federation. The 21 club teams represent 12 countries, including host club FC Porto. The defending champions, the French club Soissons, are not participating. The teams include many of the most representative players in European three-cushion billiards.
The competition consists of two phases: a first qualifying phase with 20 teams divided into five groups of four (excluding Porto) will take place from Wednesday to Friday; the final phase with the top eight teams, seven of which from the first phase plus the home team FC Porto, will take place on Saturday. In the final round, two groups of four will be formed, with the top two teams from each group competing in the semifinals and final on Sunday, July 26th. Tuesday, July 21st, will be reserved for team accreditation and a practice session. Porto, a three-time winner of this event, will be looking for a fourth victory after having to settle for silver in the previous two editions, but the competition will be extremely tough.
