DAY 6: 3-CUSHION INDIVIDUAL: THE NEW EUROPEAN CHAMPION IS TORBJÖRN BLOMDAHL.

The most important and awaited CEB competition of the sport season 23/24 reached the finish line today, closing a 6 days marathon of exciting 3-cushion billiard. 
Torbjörn Blomdahl (SE) is the new European Champion 3-Cushion Individual. He clashed with Martin Horn this afternoon in the TBF headquarter in Ankara. 
For the German player this was the third final of an European Championship 3-Cushion Individual, altough he never won the gold. The Swede already won 9 times the European gold medal and this is the 10th.
 
The final: Horn started well taking a good 14-2 advantage in the first 9 innings while Blomdahl struggled to score. However, by the 16th inning, the Swede had canceled the gap and took the lead by 21-18. Then the break came at 25-19 in 17 innings, Blomdahl still leading the match. Few innings later the gap was even increased (32-21 in 24). In the next phase of the match Blomdahl slowed down a bit and the German had chances to close the gap; he finally did it with a run of 9, despite some mistakes on both sides. The finish line was in sight and the score was 41-41 in 35 innings. In the nest few innings Horn run 5 and 2, Blomdahl replied with 3 and finally closed the match with a run of 6. Final score was 50-48 in 40 innings.

Martin Horn (DE) takes the silver medal.
Ruben Legazpi (ES) and Jeffrey Jorissen (NL) are taking home a bronze medal.
 
In the morning the semifinals took place and both ended with a score of 50-34. Martin Horn defeated Jeffrey Jorissen in 34 innings and Torbjörn Blomdahl won Ruben Legazpi in 24 innings.

DAY 5: EC 3-CUSHION INDIVIDUAL: THE SEMIFINALS ARE SET FOR TOMORROW.
Today's session was the decisive one for those who were hunting for a spot on the podium. There wasn't a lack of surprises. Today it was the turn of other favorites to leave the tournament earlier than expected.
In round of last 16 Ruben Legazpi sent out Dick Jaspers and Glenn Hofman won Eddy Merckx. Then Jeffrey Jorissen defeated the Turkish Vice-Champion Berkay Karakurt. Torbjorn Blomdahl and Roland Forthomme won two breathtaking matches by 50-49 against Dion Nelin and Tayfun Tasdemir. Jeremy Bury, Martin Horn and Robinson Morales also qualified to the quarters final.

Later Jeffrey Jorissen got the first pass for the semifinals at the expenses of Robinson Morales by 50-35 in 24. The other three matches of quarters final were tense and exciting. Martin Horn defeated Roland Forthomme by 50-47 in 28/27. Torbjorn Blomdahl won Glenn Hofmann by 50-48 in 27 and Ruben Legazpi was the last one to reach the semifinals winning Jeremy Bury by 50-49 in 32.
Semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow.

DAY 4: LAST 16 ROUND OF THE INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIP IS READY TO START.
Today the round of last 32 was played. The best one was Dick Jaspers who played 50 points in 18 innings sending home Arnim Kahofer. Second best performance was by Tayfun Tasdemir who played the 50 points in 21 innings against compatriot Furkan Senel. Jeremy Bury (with an high run of 15), Dion Nelin and Eddy Merckx are also qualified to last 16 with averages over 2 at the expenses of Turgay Orak, Barry Van Beers and Andaluz Anton Valentin. Tolgahan Kiraz and Berkay Karakurt got a pass in the last 16 winning Peter De Backer and Lukas Stamm. The field of last 16 is then completed by Robinson Morales, Jeffrey Jorissen, Roland Forthomme, Martin Horn, Torbjorn Blomdahl, Glenn Hofman, Gerard Kostistansky, Ruben Legazpi and Ronny Lindemann who won against the title holder Marco Zanetti.
The last 16 round is planned tomorrow in two rounds: at 11.00 and 13.30 local time. Quarters finals will follow in the afternoon at 16.00 and 18.30 local time.

DAY 3: THE 16 GROUP WINNERS OF THE INDIVIDUAL EC ARE DECIDED, THE KO ROUNDS WILL START TOMORROW.
The third day is over and the 16 group winners of the individual competition are decided.
Robinson Morales is the leader of the qualification ranking with the best general average so far (1,860). The best match was by Arnim Kahofer (2,666). Highest run was by the young Denizcan Akkoca (15) who also scored the second best general average (1,775) but unfortunately he was second in his group and didn't qualify to the next stage.
Tomorrow is totally dedicated to the last 32 round. The 16 group winners will play against the 16 top players seeded.
The 16 direct elimination matches will be played in 4 rounds starting from 12.30 local time. Just before that, at 12.00, the official opening ceremony will take place.

DAY 2: GERMANY IS THE NEW EUROPEAN 3-CUSHION NATIONAL TEAMS CHAMPION.
The gold medal of this exciting edition of the European Championship 3-Cushion National Teams was decided on a scotch double set to 15 points. The regular match between Germany 1 and Netherlands 2 was a tie: Hofman won against Horn in 17 innings while Lindemann defeated Van Beers in 21 innings. German team was much better in the scotch double winning the set and the gold medal by 15-5 in 6 innings. Silver medal for Netherlands 2.
Bronze medals for Spain 2 (Morales, A. Legazpi) and Sweden 1 (Blomdahl, Nilsson).

The second daily session started in the morning with the quarters final.
Germany 1 continued the excellent performance outplaying France 1 with victories of Horn (3,333) and Lindemann against Bury and Melnytschenko.
Spain 2 also reached the semifinals eliminating the last Turkish team with two wins of Morales and A.Legazpi on Orak and Hashas.
Sweden 1 (Blomdahl-Nilsson) won the second French team (Panaia-Tachoire).
Last quarter final was a draw with one win on each side; Hofman won Costa (2,105) for Netherlands 2 and Soares won Van Beers for Portugal 1. The scotch double extension decided the fourth semifinalist: Netherlands duo won by 15-10.

Semifinals were set:
Germany 1 - Spain 2
Sweden 1 - Netherlands 2

Both semifinal matches were clear wins. Germany 1 and Netherlands 2 showed the best shape during all this tournament. Both deserved the final. Martin Horn played another top class match against Robinson Morales (40-24 in 14) and Lindemann had no problems with A. Legazpi (40-23 in 26). Hofman played also brilliantly defeating Blomdahl by 40-20 in 19, while Van Beers scored just a bit lower average against Nilsson (40-25 in 21).

Tomorrow the European Championship 3-Cushion Individual will start with the qualification stage.

DAY 1: QUARTERS FINAL OF THE NATIONAL TEAMS ARE DECIDED. GERMANY ON TOP SO FAR.
The first day is now gone and the quarters final of the EC 3-Cushion National Teams are decided. The 8 group winners will clash tomorrow morning at 9.30 (local time) for a place on the podium. Semifinals and final will follow during the day. Here are the group winners.

THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 3-CUSHION, ANKARA.
The Turkish Billiards Federation headquarter in Ankara is once again under the spotlights. The biggest CEB championship will be hosted in a few days in the TBF facility on the 8 tables, sport materials are provided by Simonis and Aramith. For the first time the European Championship 3-Cushion National Teams and Individual will run together, one after the other, as a "regrouped event". It will be an exciting 6 days billiard event joined by the best CEB 3-cushion players.
The first one to take place will be the tournament for National Teams, on April 16th and 17th. 24 teams of two athletes, representing 15 federations, will play qualification rounds divided in 8 groups of 3. The winner of each group will qualify to quarters final. Each match is configured by two games to 40 points. Only in the KO rounds, in case of a draw, a scotch double extension will be played with the 4 athletes together on the same table.
The second one will be the major yearly CEB event: the European Championship 3-Cushion Individual. It will run from April 18th to 21st. The first stage is the qualification stage: 48 athletes from 16 federations will play divided in 16 groups of 3. The 16 winners of each group will advance in the KO stage where 16 athletes from top of the CEB ranking are waiting. The competition will then continue in the KO format until the end. 
The European 3-Cushion titles are at stake in Ankara: the individual crown is in the hand of the Italian Marco Zanetti and the National Teams title holder is the Greek representative, both conquered in Antalya last season. An additional prize awaits the new European Champion Individual: he will be surely part of the European 3-cushion delegation to the next World Games in Chengdu in 2025.
