EC ARTISTIC NATIONAL TEAMS: TURKIYE SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND THE TITLE

EC ARTISTIC NATIONAL TEAMS: TURKIYE SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND THE TITLE
03/04/2024

DAY 5:
The final day of this Artistic regrouped championships has just ended.
The Turkiye 1 team successfully defended the European Title conquered last year in Antalya.
The Turkish team line up had not changed from 2023: Haci Arap Yaman and Baris Cin confirmed their supremacy and took again the gold medal in front of their own fans.
In the final they confronted with Belgium team (Van Der Zegel - Vervliet) and won by 3-1 in sets. Belgium gained a silver medal. In the semifinals the Belgian duo eliminated the Austria team (Hekerle - Dahlke) by 3-1.
The second semifinals was played by Turkiye 1 and Germany 2; it was filled with suspence. On a 2-1 sets score in favor of Germany the two teams drawed the 4th set and a tie-break was needed to decide the winner of this set and perhaps of the match. Germany missed twice this opportunity and Turkiye won the tie-break thus going on a 2-2 sets score. The last decider set was then won by the Turkish duo.
Bronze medals were awarded to Austria and Germany 2.

DAY 4:

The fourth day of this Artistic Billiard marathon in the beautiful TFB facility in Ankara it's the day of the National Teams qualification groups and quarters final.

Groups were played at first to decide the 8 teams that clashed in the last 8 KO round at the end of the day.
Both groups A and B were clearly won by Turkiye 1 and Turkiye 2 with two victories each. Germany 2 and Austria were the runners up thanks to their victories against the two Spanish teams that are therefore both eliminated.

In groups C and D the three teams of each group won 1 match each. In group C France 2 and Germany 1 are qualified thanks to the higher number of sets won. Netherlands is out for one set difference. In group D there was even an equality of set points so it was necessary to compare the averages: France 1 and Belgium were qualified, Turkiye 3 is out.

Quite surprisingly all the teams 2 placed better than the team 1 of the same nation in the qualification ranking. Turkiye 2 was on top followed by Turkiye 1. French 2 was number 3 and French 1 was number 4. Then Austria in the fifth place followed, again, first by Germany 2 and then Germany 1. Last one of the 8 qualified was the Belgian team. The quarters final were played as follows:
TURKIYE 2 - BELGIUM
FRANCE 1 - AUSTRIA
FRANCE 2 - GERMANY 2
TURKIYE 1 - GERMANY 1

All of the quarters final matches were extremely tense and balanced matches, sets score was an exciting 3-2 for all of them and there wasn't a lack of surprises.
The last set gave the ticket to a spot on the podium to Belgium, Austria, Germany 2 and Turkiye 1.

Semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow morning, local time:
At 10:00 Belgium - Austria and at 12:30 Germany 2 - Turkiye 1
