TWO GOLD MEDALS FOR GERMANY

TWO GOLD MEDALS FOR GERMANY
03/09/2026

Press Release | 9 March 2026 (web version)

Toni Rosenberg and Amir Ibraimov are the European champions of the third day of competition at the CEB All-in-One Carom Billiards Championships in Antalya, Turkiye. The two Germans secured the continental titles in the disciplines of 5-Pins and U25 3-Cushion.

5-Pins
The final between Rosenberg and Denmark’s Erling Sjørup could hardly have been more dramatic. In the first two sets, Sjørup dominated almost at will, while Rosenberg struggled to get into the game at all. That changed in the third set, when the German finally showed what he is capable of at the billiard table. After reducing the score to 1–2, Sjørup was alerted and continued to play excellent 5-Pins billiards until the closing phase of the fourth set. Rosenberg seemed beaten, but out of nowhere he scored ten points, then received another ten due to a mistake by Sjørup, and with his next shot completely turned the set around.

This forced a deciding set, in which Toni Rosenberg immediately took control of the match. He gradually increased his lead while Sjørup had no answers left. Rosenberg ultimately scored the remaining points and crowned himself European singles champion for the first time in his career.

The shared third place went to Alfredo Jose Torre Rossini (San Marino) and Kim Henriksen (Denmark). Torre Rossini lost to Rosenberg in the semifinal in three sets, while Henriksen narrowly lost 2–3 to Sjørup in an all-Danish semifinal.

U25 3-Cushion
The new European champion in this discipline is Amir Ibraimov. The German took the lead against Austria’s Nikolaus Kogelbauer in the second inning and carried a small advantage of four or five points into the break.
After the break he slightly extended the lead and earned his first match point. He missed it — as well as a second one — but then it was finally done. With a score of 40–29 in 25 innings, Amir Ibraimov crowned himself U25 European champion at only 17 years old.

Earlier in the semifinals, Daniel Sainz-Pardo and Abdullah Kaya had been eliminated. The Spaniard Sainz-Pardo narrowly lost to Kogelbauer, while local favorite Kaya (Turkiye) was defeated by Ibraimov. Both received bronze medals at the evening award ceremony.

The highest run of the day was made by Ibraimov with 8 points. In the final he also achieved the best average of the day with 1.6. Over the entire tournament, the German recorded an average of 1.250.

Artistic Billiards
In spectacular Artistic Billiards, the group stage concluded today, followed by the round of 16 in the afternoon. By that point, former world vice-champion Bernd Singer was already out. The German had drawn a difficult group with compatriot Marvin Heinrich and Turkiye’s Baris Cin and was eliminated.

In the round of 16, Singer’s compatriot and defending champion Thomas Ahrens was also eliminated. Against Belgium’s Steve Wilms, he made too many mistakes in the middle of the game, which ultimately cost him the match. Also eliminated was French co-favorite Michael Hammen, who lost to the Dutchman René Dericks. Kevin Tran (France) and Serdar Gumus (Turkey) — both considered medal contenders — were also knocked out.

In tomorrow’s quarterfinals, many eyes will surely be on Haci Arap Yaman and Baris Cin. The duo from Turkiye will face each other directly at 09:00.

Quarterfinal draw – 09:00
René Dericks – Matthieu Franck
Erik Vervliet – Hector Cuadrado
Haci Arap Yaman – Baris Cin

An even stronger performance came from Raymund Swertz (Netherlands), who finished one match in the first inning (average of 150) and recorded an overall average of 64.28 across his three matches, placing himself in a clear favorite position for tomorrow’s quarterfinals.

Also remaining undefeated in their groups were Willy Gerimont (France) and José Albert (Spain). Xavier Gretillat (Switzerland) and Nikolaos Gerassimopoulos (Greece) narrowly missed the quarterfinals, losing out only due to a lower overall average compared to Patrick Niessen (Belgium) and Gert-Jan Veldhuizen (Netherlands).

Raymund Swertz – Gert-Jan Veldhuizen
José Albert – Esteve Mata
Willy Gerimont – Marek Faus
