DOUARNENEZ BRINGS THE TROPHY BACK HOME
Sunday 19th update.
The final day of the Coupe d'Europe Classic Teams was extremely exciting and suspenseful, in front of a packed venue.
The Douarnenez Valdys team managed to bring back home the prestigious European trophy, not without difficulty.
The final against their compatriots, the host team of Douai-Carvin, was indeed won on a knife-edge. Initially, Raymund Swertz for Douarnenez and Frederic Caudron for Douai-Carvin each won one game to tie the match, against Patrick Niessen and Gregory Le Deventec, respectively. At this point, everything depended on the third game at 47/2 between Pascal Dessaint (Douai-Carvin) and Louis Edelin (Douarnenez).
Edelin finally won his game and the trophy for the sixth time in history, in favor of Douarnenez Valdys.
In the semifinals, Douarnenez eliminated the Germans from DBC Bochum 4-2, while Douai-Carvin defeated the Austrians from WBA also 4-2; there was no shortage of excitement today.
Gold medal: Douarnenez Valdys (France)
Silver medal: Entente Douai-Carvin IMT Nord Europe (France)

THE SEMIFINALS HAVE BEEN DECIDED IN DOUAI
Saturday 18th update.
Today's session was extremely interesting and exciting. We had to wait until the final match to find out the Sunday's semifinals lineup.
Group A was won by Douai-Carvin IMT, although the French team lost their last match against Belgian Noorderkempen, thus losing first place in the qualifying standings. The Belgians finished in second place, and Spanish Foment Molins de Rei finished third.
Douarnenez Valdys won Group B (and the overall qualifications ranking) with a draw in their final match against German team Bochum. The 47-2 game between Raymund Swertz and Ludger Havlik was exceptional, ending 200-200 in one inning. Swertz (Douarnenez) scored his 200 points in 26 minutes, Havlik (Bochum) took some more time for his 200; the other two games were one for each side determing a very important draw for Bochum. Bochum finished in second place, and Greek team Trisponto finished third.
Group C was the most unpredictable. Dutch team De Hazelaar and Austrian team WBA entered the last match tied on points; only the winner would qualify to semifinals. With both sides tied at 1-1 in 47/2 and 71/2, the match was decided in the one-cushion game where Kahofer (WBA) prevailed over De Bruijn (De Hazelaar), giving the Austrians the win and first place in the group. De Hazelaar finished second, and Denmark finished third.
Among the runners-up, DBC Bochum, Germany, advanced to the semifinals thanks to the greater number of match points.
The semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow morning (Sunday).
at 9:00: Douarnenez Valdys - DBC Bochum
at 11:30: Douai-Carvin IMT - WBA

THE COUPE D’EUROPE CLASSIC TEAMS IS READY TO KICK OFF IN DOUAI
The 16th edition of the Coupe d’Europe Classic Teams will be hosted at the Residence Descartes, an IMT Nord Europe conference facility in Douai (France). This is an exceptional edition of the most anticipated event for club teams in the classical disciplines, organized under the auspices of the CEB and the FFB: nine teams representing the record number of eight national federations will compete for the prestigious trophy.
The title holders and organizers, the French team Entente Douai-Carvin IMT Nord Europe, have prepared everything down to the smallest detail. The opening ceremony will take place on April 15th (this Wednesday) in the Gothic Hall of Douai Town Hall, in the presence of local authorities and the main promoters.
The competition will take place over four days, from Thursday 16th until Sunday 19th; the first three days will be reserved for the qualifying groups, and the final, on Sunday, will feature the semifinals and final. The qualifying groups will consist of 18 matches, meaning three groups of three will be played twice. The three group winners plus the best second-place finisher will advance to the semifinals.
The host team of Douai-Carvin will do everything they can to retain the trophy; among others, they will face strong contenders from Douarnenez, who won the trophy five consecutive times from 2018 to 2024 and are now seeking revenge after finishing third in 2025. Other podium contenders include Austrian team WBA, silver medalists in last year's edition, and Dutch team De Hazelaar, who also won bronze in 2025. The other participating teams should not be underestimated, including Denmark's first-time participation and the Greek team Trisponto BC from Athens. The list of participating teams is completed by DBC Bochum for Germany, BC Noorderkempen for Belgium, and SBF Molins de Rei for Spain.
There is also an impressive list of champions among the team members:
- Raymund Swertz (NL) - Douarnenez Valdys: 6 times winner of this Coupe d’Europe, and European title holder in Cadre 47/2.
- Jean-Paul de Bruijn (NL) - De Hazelaar/GJ Billiards: 5 times winner of this Coupe d’Europe, World champion and multiple European champion in 1-Cushion.

This event is played on Simonis cloths with Aramith billiard balls.
